Draping / At Bharti’s

What it is,
and how it’s done here.

Draping is the careful work of pleating, tucking and pinning a saree, dupatta or lehenga so it falls well and lets you move and sit comfortably. It matters most with heavy or slippery fabrics, and with dupattas that carry embroidery.

The studio starts with the outfit itself: the fabric, the weight, the blouse and the footwear. The style of drape, the length of the pallu and where the dupatta sits are agreed with you, and the studio checks that you can walk, sit and lift your arms before the last pin goes in.

Draping has its price and timing confirmed before you agree. If it is part of a makeup and hair booking, or for several people at once, ask for the combined plan in writing.

Your appointment

Draping,
step by step.

  1. 01
    See the outfit

The fabric, blouse, underskirt and footwear are checked together.

  2. 02
    Agree the style

You choose the drape, the pallu length and the dupatta placement, with references if you have them.

  3. 03
    Pleat and tuck

Pleats are folded evenly, tucked at the waist and pinned in place.

  4. 04
    Pallu or dupatta

The pallu or dupatta is set and pinned so it sits right from the front and the back.

  5. 05
    Movement check

You walk, sit and turn, so any pin that pulls can be adjusted.

Tell the studio first

  • What the outfit is made of and how heavy it is.
  • The style of drape you want, with a photo if possible.
  • Whether you will be dancing, travelling or sitting for long.

Aftercare, usually

  • Before sitting, lift the pleats slightly so they do not crease or pull.
  • Keep a couple of spare pins in your bag.
  • Remove pins slowly at the end of the night so delicate fabric does not snag.
  • If draping was paired with makeup, follow the aftercare the studio gives you for the products used.

Ask about draping on WhatsApp

Before you choose

A few things,
made clear.

Why should I bring my shoes?
The saree or lehenga length is set to the heel you will actually wear. Draping in flat feet and then putting on heels can leave the hem too short.
Which draping styles can I ask for?
Tell the studio the style you have in mind, or show a photo. Whether it is a classic pleated saree, an open pallu or a dupatta set on the head, the style is agreed with you before pinning.
Will the drape stay in place all evening?
It is pinned to stay secure for normal movement, but heavy fabrics, dancing and long evenings test any drape. The studio can show you where the key pins are, so you can adjust if needed.
Can I come already wearing the blouse?
Yes, that usually helps. Wear the blouse and petticoat, or bring them, and the studio will guide you on anything else.
Can I know the price before deciding?
Yes. Ask for the service, expected time and price together. For work that depends on your hair, chosen nail design or occasion, ask the studio for a written quote before agreeing to the appointment.
Is my appointment confirmed when I send a request?
Your preferred day and time are a request. The appointment is confirmed only after the studio replies on WhatsApp or by phone.
