A hydra facial is a type of cosmetic facial that uses a handheld device to cleanse, exfoliate and apply hydrating serums. It relies less on massage than a traditional facial, which some people prefer.
The studio begins with a conversation in the skin room about your skin, your routine and anything you are using or being treated for. The device, the serums and each step are then explained, so you know exactly what will happen before you agree.
The price and the time to allow are confirmed at that stage. If you would like a series of skin appointments planned around a wedding or a trip, ask for the plan and its cost in writing.

- 01Skin questions
You are asked about sensitivity, recent treatments, medication and the products you use at home.
- 02The walk-through
The device and the steps planned for your skin are explained, and you can ask anything before starting.
- 03Cleanse
Makeup and surface oil are removed so the skin is ready.
- 04Device steps
Exfoliation and hydrating serums are applied with the handheld device, area by area.
- 05Finish
A moisturiser, and sun protection if you are heading out, completes the appointment.
Tell the studio first
- Any skin condition, such as active acne, eczema, rosacea or an infection.
- Recent peels, laser, injectables or any procedure done by a doctor or clinic.
- Pregnancy, or medication that affects your skin; check with your doctor first if you are unsure.
- Any skincare ingredients you know you are allergic to.
Aftercare, usually
- Keep makeup light for the rest of the day if you can.
- Avoid scrubs, strong actives and steam rooms for a day or so.
- Use sunscreen whenever you go out.
- Follow the aftercare the studio gives you for the serums and products used.
- If irritation does not settle, contact the studio and, if needed, a doctor.
