A pedicure is cosmetic care for the feet and toenails. A classic pedicure includes a soak, nail shaping, cuticle care, smoothing of rough skin on the heels and polish. A spa pedicure adds a scrub, a mask and more massage.
Before starting, the studio takes a look at your feet and asks a few questions. Anything that looks like a medical issue, such as an infection, a wound or a painful ingrown nail, is a reason to see a doctor rather than to go ahead.
You know what the pedicure includes, what it costs and how long to allow before it begins. Combining it with a manicure, gel polish or nail art changes the total, which the studio confirms first, in writing if the design is detailed.

- 01Check and choose
Your feet and nails are looked at, and you choose the type of pedicure and the polish.
- 02Soak
Feet rest in warm water to soften the skin and nails.
- 03Nails and cuticles
Toenails are cut straight across and shaped, and cuticles gently tidied.
- 04Heels and skin
Rough skin on the heels and edges is smoothed; for a spa pedicure, a scrub and mask follow.
- 05Massage
Feet and lower legs are massaged with a cream or oil.
- 06Polish
Colour goes on once the nails are wiped free of oil, so it sits well.
Tell the studio first
- Diabetes, circulation problems or reduced feeling in your feet.
- Any infection, wound, wart or ingrown nail on the feet.
- Recent waxing or shaving on the legs.
- Allergies to lotions, oils or fragrance.
Aftercare, usually
- Wear open sandals home if the polish is still soft.
- Moisturise your heels at night to keep them comfortable.
- Keep toenails cut straight across between visits.
- Follow the aftercare the studio gives you for the products used on your feet.
