What it is,

Waxing lifts hair from the root, so skin usually stays smooth for longer than it would after shaving. Wax is applied to the area and lifted away with the hair, either as a full service, such as full legs, or a part one, such as half arms.

It happens in the skin room with the door closed. Before starting, the studio asks about your skin, what you use on it and whether you have reacted to wax before, and checks that the hair is long enough to grip.

Each area has its price and time confirmed before you agree. For several areas together, or a full booking before a wedding or holiday, ask for the total to be set out in writing first.

    Sensitivity, recent sun, medication or creams that affect your skin, and any past reactions.

    Prepare

    The skin is cleansed and dried so the wax holds the hair rather than the skin.

    Wax

    Wax goes on in small sections and comes off with the skin held firm to reduce discomfort.

    Tidy

    Any stray hairs are checked and dealt with.

    Soothe

    Wax residue is cleaned away and a soothing product applied.

Tell the studio first

  • Retinoids, acne medication or exfoliating acids, which can make skin more fragile under wax.
  • Varicose veins, diabetes or any condition affecting your skin or circulation.
  • Recent sunburn, tanning or a skin reaction on the area.
  • Any previous reaction to wax, or a preference for one kind.

Aftercare, usually

  • Avoid hot showers, saunas, swimming and strong sun for a day or so.
  • Wear loose clothing over freshly waxed skin if you can.
  • Skip perfumed lotions and deodorant on the waxed area until any redness settles.
  • Begin gentle exfoliation once the skin has calmed, not straight away.
  • Follow the aftercare the studio gives you for the wax and soothing products used.

A few things,

How long should my hair be for waxing?
Long enough for the wax to grip, which usually means not shaving for a while beforehand. If you are unsure, the studio can look and tell you whether it is ready.
Which wax is used?
The wax is chosen for the area and your skin, and the studio will explain what it uses if you ask. If you have reacted to a wax before, mention it when you book.
Can I wax during my period?
You can, though some people find waxing more uncomfortable at that time. Book when you feel most comfortable, and tell the studio if you would like a gentler pace.
How do I avoid ingrown hairs afterwards?
Nothing removes the risk completely, but loose clothing and gentle exfoliation once the skin has calmed usually help. If an ingrown hair becomes sore or infected, see a doctor.
Is waxing done privately?
Yes. Waxing happens in the skin room with the door closed. You can ask for anything that would make you more comfortable.
Can I know the price before deciding?
Yes. Ask for the service, expected time and price together. For work that depends on your hair, chosen nail design or occasion, ask the studio for a written quote before agreeing to the appointment.
Is my appointment confirmed when I send a request?
Your preferred day and time are a request. The appointment is confirmed only after the studio replies on WhatsApp or by phone.
