What it is,

De-tan is a pack applied to skin that looks dull or uneven after time in the sun, then rinsed off to leave it looking refreshed. Bleach is different: it changes the colour of fine facial hair so it blends in, rather than removing it.
Both are cosmetic, and both can irritate sensitive skin, so the studio asks about your skin before suggesting either. If you have not used these products before, a patch test is a sensible first step.
You are told the cost and time for each area before agreeing. If you are combining several areas, or adding a clean-up or waxing, ask for the whole visit to be priced up front, in writing if it helps.

- 01Sensitivity check
Questions about reactions, recent treatments and skin products, with a patch test arranged if needed.
- 02Cleanse
The area is cleansed so the product sits evenly.
- 03Apply
The de-tan pack or bleach is spread evenly and left on for the time the product requires.
- 04Watch and check
You are asked how it feels; strong tingling or burning means it comes off straight away.
- 05Remove and soothe
The product is removed and a soothing moisturiser applied.
Tell the studio first
- Sensitive or reactive skin, or past reactions to bleach or packs.
- Recent threading, waxing, peels or prescription skin creams.
- Broken skin, sunburn or a skin condition on the area.
Aftercare, usually
- Keep out of strong sun where possible, and use sunscreen.
- Avoid scrubs, waxing and threading on the area for a day or so.
- A light moisturiser usually helps if skin feels tight.
- Follow the aftercare the studio gives you for the de-tan or bleach product used.
